Meet Grafton based lawyer, Cara Austen – Director, NRCF Board
Why did you join the NRCF?
I joined the NRCF because I see the value in strengthening the relationship between the southern and northern parts of the Northern Rivers region. There are significant differences across the Northern Rivers, but the more we can work together, the stronger we will be as a region. In addition, I love the long-term vision of the NRCF, it is not about band-aid solutions, it is about long-term improvement and enhancement of our wonderful community.
As a volunteer, what is the focus of your role?
I’ve recently taken on a Director role, having been an Associate Director last year. The Board has responsibility for the strategic direction and governance of the NRCF. I get to use my legal and corporate expertise to work with the other Directors and our Executive Officer.
Tell us something that people might not know about you.
I’m a ‘blow in’. My husband is local to the region and we decided to settle our family here after nearly 20 years living and working in Canberra, Sydney and Singapore.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering at NRCF?
The people. I love working with the NRCF team. It is such a great group of passionate and smart people.
