What is the State of the Not-for-Profit Sector in the Northern Rivers?

NRCF AdminNews, Newsletter

The Northern Rivers Community Foundation (NRCF) is inviting not-for-profit organisations across the region to take part in its State of the Sector Survey, a new initiative designed to better understand the challenges, pressures and opportunities facing local community organisations.

Open to charities, grassroots groups, social enterprises and community organisations of all sizes, the survey will capture insights from across the seven Northern Rivers LGAs. The goal is to build a clearer, region-wide picture of how the sector is tracking, and what support is needed to help organisations continue their vital work.

Local not-for-profits play a critical role in supporting communities, responding to disasters, and delivering essential services for people, wildlife and the environment. However, many organisations are currently navigating increasing demand, workforce pressures, funding uncertainty and the ongoing impacts of recent disasters.

Building on insights gathered through NRCF’s annual Flood Surveys since 2022, this broader State of the Sector Survey will help identify emerging trends, shared challenges and opportunities for strengthening the sector.

The findings will directly inform NRCF’s future grantmaking, capacity building programs and advocacy, helping to ensure that support is targeted where it is needed most. The results will also contribute to a stronger evidence base for the Northern Rivers, supporting more effective responses from philanthropy, government and community partners.
