From 1 July 2026, the Northern Rivers Community Foundation (NRCF) will officially begin operating under our new Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR1) Community Charity status.
For most donors, fundholders, grant recipients and supporters, little will change day to day. Behind the scenes, however, this important milestone will strengthen our ability to support local communities, grow local philanthropy and help more philanthropic dollars stay in the Northern Rivers.
What does this mean?
From 1 July, tax-deductible donations to NRCF will be processed through our new DGR1 Community Charity entity. For most people, the transition will be seamless. Donations will simply be receipted under a new entity name and ABN. Behind the scenes, however, this is a significant milestone that will help us streamline our operations, reduce administration, and support a broader range of charitable organisations across the Northern Rivers.
The change also means we can now accept donations directly from Private Ancillary Funds, removing the need for intermediary arrangements and associated fees. If you have a Private Ancillary Fund, or a Sub Fund in a Public Ancillary Fund (like APS), why not have a chat to us about the benefits of Porting your funds to NRCF?
It’s another important step in strengthening local philanthropy – a locally connected and powerful way to support local causes that matter in the region that you love. All without the expense and administration of running your own fund or trust.
What will change?
Very little! From 1 July, tax-deductible donations to NRCF will be receipted through our new DGR1 Community Charity entity:
Northern Rivers Community Foundation
ABN 38 537 083 774
Our funds, programs, grant-making activities and commitment to supporting grassroots organisations across the Northern Rivers remain unchanged.
You’ll still be able to donate as usual, here.
Looking ahead
Being part of this national campaign and movement of Community Charities is recognition of the powerful role that community foundations can play in making communities stronger.
This is more than a new status – it’s recognition of a national movement that’s transforming community philanthropy in Australia. As a DGR1 Community Charity, NRCF is better positioned than ever to connect generosity with local need, unlock new sources of giving, and invest in the people and projects that strengthen our region.
It creates new opportunities for donors, removes barriers to community giving, and helps ensure more funding stays local, where communities themselves can shape the solutions.
We thank our donors, fundholders, partners and supporters who have helped make this next chapter possible. Together, we can continue building a more generous, compassionate and equitable Northern Rivers.
