NRCF Housing Fund Launches

Developments over the past 18 months have resulted in critical levels of housing need while the number of people experiencing homelessness continues to rise. Reduced movement within social housing itself, increased affordability pressures in the private rental market, displacement of residents due to a property market boom, and increased migration from the cities and neighbouring LGAS has created a bottleneck preventing access to housing and a rise in referrals to local homelessness services.

The NRCF Housing Fund offers two avenues through which people can donate: the Impact Now Fund which addresses the immediate needs of our community, and the Housing First Fund designed to support longer term affordable housing solutions in our region. The Impact Now Fund, with a target of $100,000 will provide financial assistance to community organisations supporting those in crisis as soon as possible. Our grants round for this Fund will open on August 4.

There are some incredible organisations in our community doing what they can to help ease the suffering of those experiencing such insecurity. The Shift Project, Byron Bay Community Centre, The Winsome and Lismore Soup Kitchen and Women up North Housing are just a few. The Impact Now Fund will support a broad spectrum of projects. Examples of recently funded projects include a social enterprise in support of women at risk of homelessness, a refuge for those sleeping rough when extreme weather occurs, and a secure place for women and children and young people impacted by domestic violence and homelessness.
